CsPbBr₃ out-of-phase inclusion facilitates high sensitivity X-ray detection

2024-06-05

A research team from the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Hefei Institute of Physical Sciences has recently carried out a study to propose a new method to enhance X-ray detection by adding out-of-phase CsPb2Br5 peritectic crystals to CsPbBr3 block materials.

X-ray

Metal halide peroxides are promising materials for X-ray detection, with better sensitivity and resolution compared to conventional detectors. Inorganic peritectic CsPbBr3 has excellent environmental stability and unique high temperature plasticity, making it particularly advantageous in X-ray detector and imaging applications.

X-ray detector

In this study, the scientists developed a new method called "OPAS." They used OPAS to combine a special material called CsPb2Br5 with another material called CsPbBr3. They made a mixture of these materials using a technique called high-energy mechanical ball milling. Adding CsPb2Br5 did not reduce the current baseline.

X-ray

Instead, it helps speed up the motion of electrons and holes, which are important for detecting X-ray. This improvement is possible because CsPb2Br5 creates channels for electrons and holes to move more easily in CsPbBr3. Using this method, they achieved high sensitivity and spatial resolution for detecting X-ray without requiring large voltages.
